His performance will be broadcast on the radio station and its website wqxr.org at 9 p.m. April 24.
The grant is awarded to up to five talented instrumentalists and chamber ensembles with great potential in professional careers as musicians. Each recipient receives $25,000 to aid in advancing a career.
Other honorees included Xavier Foley, double bassist; Francisco Fullana, violinist; and the Calidore String Quartet.
Petersen, a Christel DeHaan fellow and winner of the 2017 American Pianists Awards, has been featured in The New York Times and a documentary called “just normal” from director Kim A. Snyder.
Currently a candidate in the Arts Diploma Program at the Juilliard School, the pianist will release his debut album under the Steinway & Sons record label this spring.
